Come Christmas!

Suvussa on nyt pappi, joten eikös olisi hyvä olla myös ihan oma kirkko? (Onnea vielä Annalle!)

We have a priest in the family now, so I thought it would be appropriate to build a very own church.

Pattern is from the book Piparkakkutalot. (It's originally in Swedish, but I couldn't find the original name of the book.)



Olin vähän huolimaton viimeistelytöissä. Sokeriliisteriä on siellä täällä ja aivan liikaa. Kuorrutus on myös aika luokatonta etenkin kuoripäädyssä.

I didn't do a nice job when attaching the parts. There's sugar all over and way too much of it. I was also too hasty on the icing, especially on the other end of the church.



Tämä oli eka piparitaloni, joten sen on oltava ok. Harmittaa vaan vähän tuo ikkunoiden tyhjyys - näyttää ihan kuin vanhaan kirkkoon olisi vaihdettu uudet ikkunat.

This was the first ginger bread house I've built, so I'll say it's ok. The thing I miss the most are the windows that go together with the church. Now it seems like they would have been replaced by modern windows.

It's That Time Again

Hurraa, Ukko Nooa! Kiva, että kaikki otukset mahtuivat paattiisi. Enkeli ja kuusi olisivat muuten vähän yksin.

Hurray, Noak! Thank you for taking all the creatures on the boat. The angel and the tree would look lonely without them.

Olen ihan tosissani miettinyt, miten saisin näistä valloittavan kauniista pavuista helminauhan. Koitimme Terhon kanssa saada niihin reikiä neulalla ja vasaralla. Isoon valkoiseen se syntyikin, mutta homma tuntui tosi työläältä. Keksitkö paremman keinon?

Seriously, I tried to pierce these beans with the help of Terho, a threding needle and a hammer. I'd like to make a necklace. We only succeeded with the large, white one, and it took long enough to have my neclace dreams faint away. Could you suggest a better method?



Leivoin tänään ruisleipää. Ja kauniita pikku leipäsiä tulikin, vaikka itse sanonkin!

I baked rye bread today. And it was some very pretty rye bread, I might add.







Terhokin on valmistellut jotain - siideriä. Mutta kannattaakohan sitä juoda? Minä olisin ehklä taipuvainen uskomaan merkkeihin...

Terho has been brewing cider. Do you think it should be drunken? I myself consider trusting the signs...



Putjakkeen kanssa aloitettiin Muir. Oli tarkoitus tehdä kapeampi versio, johon 50 grammaa Wetterhofin Silviaa riittäisi, mutta hetken tuoksinnassa loimme kaikki ohjeen silmukat. Näillä on nyt sitten menty. Eikä kumpikaan meistä osaa muuttua langaksi.

Me and Putjake, we started Muir. We meant to knit a narrower version of the scarf so that the 50 grams of Wetterhof Silvia we have would be enough. But we didn't think about that when we casted on, did we? We've been knitting the whole width of the scarf since. Silly us, why go on?

Baggety Bag

Meillä ohjelmassa oli tänään teekkarikaste, SingStar karaoke ja sima.

The first of May is a national holiday in Finland. It's originally purposed to celebrate labour, but a lot of that has vanished. Since political ideologies are not that fashionable these days, students have adapted the party to their purposes. At my university, the celebrations take two weeks alltogether! (For us, it's been a great day for SingStar Karaoke, also.)




Tämä huopalaukku valmistui vapun hulinoihin. Sitä olisi pitänyt vähän silittää, mutta en jaksanut, sillä tosielämässä rypyt eivät olleet ihan noin kauheat. Näiden valokuvien ottamisen jälkeen se onkin jo silinnyt ihan hyvin.



This felted bag finished in time so that I could take it to the town with me today. I should have ironed it a bit, but didn't, since it wasn't all that horrible in real life. A day of using it have pretty much done the work now.
